What Vegetables Can Be Fed To Dogs and Cats

You can feed as many vegetables as you want at one time. I like to use at two or three in combination.

  1. asparagus
  2. broccoli
  3. Brussels sprouts
  4. cabbage
  5. carrots
  6. cauliflower
  7. celery
  8. corn
  9. dandelion leaves
  10. kale
  11. kohlrabi
  12. okra
  13. parsnips
  14. peas (& pods)
  15. pumpkin
  16. rutabagas
  17. sprouts
  18. squash
  19. sweet potatoes
  20. turnips
  21. zucchini
  • Some squashes may need slight cooking to soften the rind.
  • When using greens like dandelion or kale, just remember the bigger the leaves the more bitter the taste.
  • If you are in the mood, during the early spring, simply go to a field or an area where there is no chemical spraying and pick some dandelion. Remember, the smaller the leaves, the less bitter the taste. If you are not able to pick your own dandelion leaves, then some health food stores and even some grocery stores sell organic dandelion leaves in the produce section.
  • If you are in the mood, during the early autumn, you can go to a field or an area where there is no chemical spraying and dig up some dandelion root.
    • Dandelion leaves are best eaten in the early spring but can be eaten all year.
    • Dandelion roots are best eaten in the early autumn but can also be eaten all year.
    • Just remember that dandelion leaves and roots can be bitter and so don't overwhelm your pet otherwise the bitterness may be too much. But you can test to see where the limit is.
    • It is said that the more bitter a vegetable, the higher its ability to detoxify the body. So if you feed too many vegetables that are bitter then you can also make detoxification happen too quick.
  • A simple rule of paw: vegetables that are darker in colour generally have more nutrition.
    • For example, red cabbage is more nutritious than green cabbage.

Editor's Paw Note

If you want to incorporate the benefits of detoxifying herbs but do not always have access to them, then consider using PetiGreens which is a green food supplement for pets. Not only does a supplement like PetiGreens help to gently detoxify the body but it also provides valuable phyto-nutrients (plant nutrients). PetiGreens is a concentrated whole green food supplement for pets.

Thanks Again Jesse!

My 12 year old male cat, Lynx, was diagnosed with F.I.V., and feline AIDS several years ago. I used to spend a lot of time worrying and money on veterinary bills. When a friend of mine suggested raw foods, I thought it was a terrific idea. It made perfect sense to feed animals that are domesticated a more natural diet. So I immediately started Lynx on the program. Within weeks I started to notice differences in his looks, his energy, and even his temperament. Even my friends noticed the difference in him and want to know my secret. I always tell them about you. Thanks again Jesse for your advice, encouragement, and excellent service.

Willie Is A Magician. His Hot Spots Have Disappeared!

2010-04-09

I started following your diet suggestions, for my cat Willie four months ago and have had excellent results. Willie was a very sick cat, exhibiting all the symptoms, hot spots, hair loss, fleas, hair balls and no energy at all.

I am very happy, and so is Willie, to report that all those symptoms are now gone and he has gained all his weight back, has a full and shiny coat, there are no fleas and he has not thrown up in four months! Willie also suffered with hot spots, and they too are completely gone.

My other companion, Putter, has also taken to eating a raw meat diet, supplemented with Eggshellent, and they love it.

Your raw meat diet has turned the page for my cats' health and made me believer forever. Many thanks.

What A Difference Your Diet Has Made!

2009-03-13

I just wanted to write and tell you what a difference this new diet has made in my dogs' over–all health. I am awe struck and I have only had them on it for about three weeks.

I have two Chihuahuas and a Sharpei mix. My Sharpei (Nelly) had skin problems or allergies, I think due to the dog food I was feeding her. I could run the sweeper three times a day and still have hair everywhere. I was seriously thinking of finding a new home for her. I work two jobs and have teenagers and not enough time to sweep constantly.

That's when I started searching for a new diet for the dogs. I came across this and started it right away. It doesn't really consume anymore of my time and I don't have to sweep everyday anymore! I just can't get over the difference in their coats. They are so shiny and healthy looking. Thank you so much Jesse!

I actually enjoy feeding time for them. They love it. Even the finicky Chihuahua! And another great part about this is that they don't poop near as much as they used to. I know that Nelly would go at least six times a day if not more. I have learned so much from your website. I have read a lot of books about feeding a raw diet and one would say do this and the other one say don't do that and back and forth but none of it worked out for us and none of it was as simple as this is!

I just can't thank you enough.
